With a rich history dating back over 150 years, the Public Works Department (PWD) has been entrusted with the construction, maintenance, and advisory role for roads, bridges, and government buildings in the state. Originally responsible for irrigation, roads, bridges, and public buildings, the PWD adapted to changes, including the division into two departments in 1960: the Irrigation Department and the Building and Communication Department.
